Mokona is their time traveler and translator which Yuuko had given to them during the 2nd episode. Without Mokona, Fay, Kurogane, Syaoran and Sakura will not be able to understand each other, nor will they be able to travel to different dimensions. He is the only one who understands what each feels, would they be sad, depressed, angry; whatever they would feel, he would be able to sense.

He is also their friend and one of those that makes the group lively, together with Fay, and Kurogane as well who they always pick on since he is always so serious.

You can say that he is the one that somehow bonds the group together…
